Stunt 3 - Short of Breath

"You've come along way,

"After I did my stunt I was so sure that I lost, and I went on and on about it and I did not even think I would have the slightest chance in winning. But, WOW, after Josh did his stunt I was entirely sure he beat me, even more sure than I was before. Then, the

results were revealed and I once again confirmed with myself that I would lose, but NO! I actually beat him, and I was so shocked! As you can tell, I am not an optimistic person.." - Matt on his unexpected win

After leaping across two racing speed boats, digging for weights in a tank of rotten fish, and braving the darkness of the underwater tunnel, fear is not a factor for Matt!

Stunt 2.1 - THE CLUE

"Side by side, the white waters rise,

A short little jump, will quickly surprise.

Time it just right, be sure not to trip,

The water's unfriendly, should you happen to slip."

Stunt 2.1 - INFORMATION

Each player would take a turn, standing on the platform in the rear of one speed boat as it raced along side another speed boat. Once the boats reach a speed of 40 MPH, the player would be cleared to jump. They had to time their jump perfectly, as the distance between the boats would vary. If a player could land the jump, they would move on to the next round. If they chose not to attempt this stunt or failed to land the jump across the two boats, they would be eliminated from the game.

Stunt 2.1 - HOW WE DID IT

This challenge was designed to test the players' skills at setting aside their own opinions and considering the views of the general public. We compiled a list of eight questions that were asked to the general public over the Internet. The players' task was to determine exactly how many of the people responded in a certain way. If any player was off by more than 100 percentage points total, they would be eliminated. Providing incentive to become familiar with one another, each played was given the actual percentage range to one of the questions.

Stunt 1.1 - RESULTS

Joseph - Was 40% short of the limit.

Josh - Was 39% short of the limit.

Andre - Was 36% short of the limit.

Matt - Was 2% short of the limit.

Dayne - Was 63% OVER the limit.

Ben - Was 126% OVER the limit.

Stunt 2.2 - THE CLUE

"Now for the next stunt, we've granted your wish,

There's nothing to eat, but you will have to fish.

This seafood's not fresh, they're all floating still.

If the search doesn't kill you, the stench sure will."

Stunt 2.2 - INFORMATION

Each player would take a turn going down a 12 foot hole filled with about 4 feet of water and thousands of floating, rotting fish. Weights had been placed at the bottom, hidden underneath the water. The players had to retrieve as many of those weights as possible,within the designated time limit. The two players to collect the most weights, would move on to the final round. The other two would be sent packing.

Stunt 2.2 - HOW WE DID IT

A huge web page was constructed, and covered with graphics of fish in laying in piles. These piles were scattered accross the page and were different shapes, sizes, etc. Twenty-five links were hidden on the web page, within the piles of fish. Players had to search all over the page to first find the links or "weights". Clicking on them brought them to a seperate page with a word puzzle on it. If they correctly solved the puzzle, it counted as a "weight". There was a time limit to how long they could spend searching.

Stunt 2.3 - THE CLUE

Stunt 2.3 - INFORMATION

Each player would take a turn starting at one end of a submerged tube, dive underwater, and enter at that end. They then had to swim through the tunnel, until reaching the other end and coming back to the surface. There were several areas for them to catch their breath, throughout the tunnel, and to make it even harder, nine cage doors were placed in the tube. A set of keys was give to each player, to unclock the doors with. The players must find the right key for the lock on each door, use it, and move on. The player who gets out with the fastest time would win.

Stunt 2.3 - HOW WE DID IT

This stunt depended on how well the players got to know one another over the week. A set of nine pages was linked together, but in order to move from page to page, a password had to be entered. The password to each page was the answer to the question on the preceding page. If a player was unable to answer a question about a former contestant, they had another option. However, it would require a lot more time. The host timed each player individually and the fastest player was declared the winner.

As the sun sets over the horizon, Matt and Josh meet up with Steve at a large underwater pool.  A long black tube extends for almost 100 feet under the water.  Several holes lead up to the surface and the tube is lined with plexy-glass windows, though there was not much to see inside but darkness.
 
"Well guys, you've worked through two difficult stunts, but now, only one of you can win."  Each of you will take a turn starting at one end of the tube, and at my signal, you'll dive underwater, and enter at that end.  You'll then have to swim through the tunnel, until you reach the other and come back to the surface.  There are several areas for you to catch your breath, throughout the tunnel, and to make it even harder, on you, we've put nine cage doors in the tube.  Here is a set of keys, which you will use to unlock the doors.  You must find the right key for the lock on each door, use it, and move on.  The player who gets out with the fastest time wins."

As Matt and Josh prepared for the final stunt, Steve took one last time, to ask a few questions.  "Matt, what would you say has been the highlight of this game for you?"  Matt replied, "Oh, there were a couple. I guess we could start with me making it past Stunt 1, just by a smidgen! So anyway, I was so freaked out when I nearly failed, but was overjoyed after I passed. That was one of the best parts. Another highlight has been when I got more weights (in Stunt 2) than everyone else combined! It was 
really nice to be able to show that, no, I'm not so weak, after such a pitiful Stunt 1. But, I guess, those have been the highlights."  Steve turned to Josh. "Competing! And not only that...but being able to succeed. I knew it would be a challenge and being in the final two is just great."
 
"So Matt, you've said before that second place was alright, correct?  "...as I said last time (hehe, the quote that turned heads) if my best isn't good enough, oh well, second is good enough, and the winner deserves it.  I really want to win the game, and I will do anything I can to succeed."  "And what about you Josh, what will it take for you to win this game?" "Matt is a great competitor. But as long as I'm the strong person and challenges that I always am, I know I can pull through.", Josh replied.  "Well, I can definitely see that you both want this thing really bad, but as you know, there's one thing standing in your way.  So, if you guys are ready, lets get the final stunt going."
 
"Matt, you're up first my man, what are you thinking?", Steve asked. "Well, I don't think I'll be ready until I begin the stunt, and I'm not even sure if I'll be ready then. I'm kind of nervous, and I really want to win, but oh well, second place is not bad either!"  "OK Matt, good luck!  Remember, you can stop at any of the four sections for fresh air."
 
Matt dove into the water, and headed for the entrance of the tunnel.  He ran into a little trouble at the first caged door, and had to go up for some air.  He quickly went back down, found the right key, and unlocked it.  Reaching door 2, he ran into a little more trouble, and went back for some air.  A few seconds later, he had gotten through, flying through the third door, but getting held up on the fourth.
He made his way through the next three locks pretty quickly, but stopped for more air at the eighth.  He finally unlocked eight, then nine, and was out!  Josh and Steve clapped, as Matt broke the surface of the water.  "Hey Matt!  Nice work!", Steve shouted. "Whew!  How long'd that take?", Matt asked in anticipation. "You'll have to wait, to find out!", Steve called back.

Matt got out of the water and started to dry off.  Josh and Steve headed toward the diving point. "Okay Josh, what's your motivation, aside from winning?", Steve asked.  "Wanting to prove to myself that fear isn't a factor for me. A slogan is a slogan, but when you realize there is no fear inside of you.... It?s an accomplished feeling.", Josh replied with a smile.  "Well, you know what you have to beat? Ready to do this?" "I'm ready!  Let's go!", Josh tossed his shirt behind him, and prepared to dive in.
 
Once Steve started the clock, Josh made a long dive toward the pipe's entrance. He had a little trouble getting himself into the pipe, but once inside he managed to move pretty quickly.  After a quick stop for air on the first door, Josh held his breath through the fifth lock.  After a few seconds of trying out keys, he finally got it to open.  While he was going, Steve asked Matt what he was thinking. "Well. I've probably lost, but oh well.", Matt replied, as he watched Josh pass the seventh window.  Josh ran into a little trouble at the eighth door, and was forced to stop for a breath of fresh air.  Finally he burst through the eighth and ninth, and emerged from the pool.  "Well done Josh, that was great!", Steve called out. "Come up here and dry off!"
 
Josh got himself a towel, and joined Matt and Steve.  "Well guys, you both did an excellent job in getting through that stunt.  But one of you had a faster time. Regardless of the outcome, I congratulate both of you for your outstanding effort!"
 
Josh and Matt shook hands, as Steve announced their times.
 
And the winner of e-Fear Factor: The Series - Episode 2 is.......

MATT!!!!!! Congratulations Matt, you are the newest champion!
 
Less than a minute separated your times. Josh, you came so close!  Congratulations on a job well done. ?Oh man it is so hard to take lightly. I thought I had it in the bag, but in a game like this anything can happen. But I?d rather get 2nd than not making it in the final two. I got to have the whole experience, and I?m very happy for Matt so it?s all good.?
 
Matt, you managed to make the boat to boat jump, find 17 weights in a tank of rotten fish, and swim through a submerged tunnel in record time!  Evidently, fear is not a factor for you!

The four remaining players make their way to the fishing wharf, climbing up a ladder on the side of a huge fishing barge, where they meet Steve for their second stunt.  "Glad you could make it guys!", Steve gathered the players around.  "Ready to see your second stunt?"  The players gave a somewhat convincing nod, as Steve bent over and flipped open a hatch in the floor.  The players gazed down a 12 foot hole, as the stench of rotting fish made its way out.

"Each of you will take a turn going down in there.  The water is about 4 feet deep and filled with rotting fish.  We have placed weights at the bottom, hidden underneath the water.  You must retrieve as many of those weights as possible, within the designated time limit.  The two players to collect the most weights, will move on to the final round.  The other two will be sent packing."

Josh, Joseph, Matt, and Andre stood around Steve, gazing down into the pit of rotting fish, floating in the murky brown water. The players looked on, as Steve explained the stunt. They all realized that this was perhaps the most vital stunt, aside from the final. Only two of them would have the privilege of making it to the final round with a 50% chance of winning the game. Of course several players knew that their chances of winning in the final two were much greater. However, they would have to be of the two players to collect the most weights not an easy task.

Josh was the first player to attempt the stunt; he carefully climbed down the metal ladder, hesitantly slipping his feet into the unknown substance. Steve asked how he was feeling. "I'm ready for it. I really 
am.", Josh called up, as he glanced at a fish head floating by. "You don't sound to convincing Josh", Steve replied. "You know you get to set the standard here." "Bring it on!", Josh shouted out. "Now that's 
more like it!", Steve called out. "Ready... Go!"

Josh quickly began to feel for the weights. After finding one, he realized that his head would have to go under to pick it up. One by one, seconds ticked off the clock. With five minutes remaining, Josh had secured seven weights. He was having trouble finding more. Finally, he managed to find one last weight, just as time ran out. "Good job Josh, you took a total of 8 weights! Very impressive!"

Joseph was the next player up. He tore of his T-shirt with excitement, and ran over to Steve. "So Joseph, which of these three guys are you wanting to beat the most?", Steve asked. Joseph didn't even glance back at the other three and quickly replied, "The person I most want to beat now is Josh. Not because I don't like him. Actually, he is my favorite person in the game, besides myself. But I still feel that he is the other competitor most on my level. I think me and him are the top 2. We'll be in the finals against each other." "You sound confident Joseph! Well good luck my man, let's see what you can do!"

Joseph quickly climbed into the hole, but slowed down considerably as he reached the water level. The clock started and Josh lowered himself in. Slow and steady seemed to be his goal. Finding his first weight, he tried to attach it to the anchor, which had been lowered down, but dropped it. Unable to reach it, he moved on to find another. Finally he found another weight, with five minutes to go, it wasn't looking good. When time expired, Joseph had only secured one weight. He would need a miracle to move on.

Next up was Andre, who had a sick look on his face throughout Josh's and Joseph's attempts. As he made his way down the ladder, he looked down, then looked up again. "What's wrong Andre?", Steve called out. Andre climbed back out, and put his shirt back on. Andre turned down the stunt, as was eliminated. ?I had an awesome time. I wish I could've done the last challenge?  Anyway I'd do it all again if I could, thanks Steve!?

Matt was the final player to go. He was the only person standing between Joseph and Round 3. Josh had already earned a spot in the finals, and decided to take in some sun, far away from the stench. "OK Matt, it's your time to shine.", Steve said. "All I can do is try, and if my best isn't good enough, I'll just have to 
congratulate the others, and go home. That's that.", Matt's words lifted both Josh's and Joseph's heads.

Matt took his position and Steve started the clock. It took him almost five minutes to find the first weight and he was beginning to give in to discouragement. Finally, he came across a second and a third. Matt was thrashing through the water, with fish guts stuck to his face and in his hair. When time ran out, the anchor was pulled up and Steve counted Matt's weights. Two, four, six..... seventeen! "Well done Matt, you managed to find more weights than either of these guys!" Matt and Josh will be moving into Round 3. Joseph, I'm sorry. You have been eliminated from the game. The slightly depressed Joseph turned to walk away, while Matt and Josh smiled at their success. ?Well, I got beat. I don't think I was too cocky. I don't even think that I underestimated the other contestants. The simple thing that beat me was bad timing and bad luck. Josh is a strong player, but Matt is obviously just quiet and powerful... a very deadly combination. Good luck to Josh and Matt, you're going to need it in the final stunt. I think I've said enough now to get my own page on the e-Fear Factor site, so this is Joseph.... signing off! I hope my fans are not too disappointed in me. But as someone once said, "To be the man, you've got to beat the man!" I didn't beat Matthew or Josh, so Fear is obviously a factor for me!?

The six contestants are taken shore of an beautiful lake.  As Steve greets them, two speedboats race through the water, just feet apart from one another. "Hey Guys! Glad you could make it.  As you know, you are all here for one thing, and one thing alone. That is to prove your skill, attempting to become an e-Fear Factor champion.  I'm sure you've noticed those two speedboats out there.  They will be the basis for your first stunt. You will each take a turn, standing on the platform in the rear of one boat. Once the boats reach a speed of 40 MPH, you will be cleared to jump. You must time your jump perfectly, as the distance between the boats will vary.  If you can land the jump, you'll be moving on to the next round. If you choose not to attempt this stunt or fail to land the jump across the two boats, you'll be eliminated from the game.?

The players began to suit up, in preparation for their first stunt. Steve teased them about getting whiplash from striking against the water at 40+ MPH. Once the guys were ready, the group headed 
for the dock, where they would look on as one by one, they attempted to conquer the stunt. They would either be going or staying, it was as simple as that. The task they were to face however, was not quite as 
simple.

Ben was the first player to go. He crawled into the boat, with a nervous look on his face. "So Ben, how do you think you'll do in this stunt?? asked Steve. "I think I'll do horrible.? Ben replied. "You don't want the other players to know that thought. So get out there and show them what it's all about!? Steve said as Ben took his position. The boats sped together side by side, until reaching maximum speed. Ben stood up to take the jump, but timed it a little too late, falling behind the target boat. The soaking Ben returned to the group, where Steve informed him of the elimination he already knew about. ?Well, this is interesting. It was pretty retarted of me [to miss that jump]. Good luck to everybody in the next round, especially Josh."

Next up was Matt. "So Matt, which of those guys stands out to you", Steve questioned. "I have only chatted with Ben, and he seemed to be on the same level as me.? Matt replied. Steve grinned, "While that's pretty scary, considering he just wiped out my friend." Matt smiled, as he got in the speedboat. "Good luck!? Steve shouted as the engines roared. One of the guys on the dock included, "you're gonna need it", as the boats sped of. Matt tried to time his jump a little earlier than Ben. In doing so, he was forced to make a little back step just before leaping. SMACK! Matt hit the side of the boat, but had managed to grip it tightly. He pulled himself up, raising his hands up the air, shouting in victory.

Andre walked toward Steve, as he was the third player to go. "What's your strategy here Andre?" Andre replied, "My strategy is to not give up." "Okay, let's see what you can do! Make the jump, and you're in, miss it, and your out.? Steve's words were hardly noticed by Andre, as he was already focused on the stunt. Andre truly set the bar for the players to follow, as his near perfect jump landed him on two feet, in the center of the platform. "Nice job Andre!? called out Steve.

Josh was the fourth player to go. "So what's your prediction for this stunt Josh?? Steve asked. "I'm very strong in many aspects and I believe that no matter the task, I can complete it and come out on top.? Josh replied with confidence. "Sound like a plan, but you'll have to pass this stunt first, go for it!" Josh proved his skill, with a nice leap, he landed on both feet, keeping his balance well.

"OK Dayne! What are your thoughts going into this stunt? Ben's the only one who's out, can you keep it that way?? Steve asked. "I hope I'll do good, but you can never tell. It sounds pretty scary, but I'm not scared of anything.... Yet.", Dayne replied with a grin. Dayne took his position, and the boats sped up to 40 MPH. Dayne somehow slipped as he was running. His jump was severely affected, but he did manage to grab a hold of the boat's side. As he worked to pull himself up, the boat's speed caused him to drag against the water. Eventually he had to let go. He met Steve back at the dock, and after shaking hands, began to walk off. ?Well look at me. I came into this game knowing I can win this thing. I guess I just didn't plan my jump right, and I slipped. I had a blast and I would do this again in a heart beat! Good luck guys. You beat me at my own game!?

Joseph was the last player to go. "Feeling good about this Joseph?", Steve asked, "Two of your competitors are gone, think you'll be joining them?" "I have a good feeling about this stunt.", Joseph replied. "It's time to put up or shut up!" "Well said!", replied Steve. Joseph was ready to go, and the second he was cleared, he began running. With a magnificent landing, perhaps the best of the stunt, Joseph had secured himself a spot in Round 2.

Well, Ben and Dayne, sorry we had to see you go. You played a good game, but couldn't quite make it. 
Matt, Josh, Andre, and Josh! Well done guys, you'll all be moving on to Round 2, where another tough stunt awaits you.
